I was born and raised in Mooresville, North Carolina on the shores of Lake Norman. Both paternal and maternal family has resided in the NC piedmont region since the 1700s and has owned Lake Norman property since the 1950’s, well before the lake existed. I grew up in a lake house on Catalina Cove Rd that my father and grandfather built in 1984. Growing up here I got to experience Lake Norman in the most intimate way one can. Most of my youth was spent patrolling the shorelines from my little aluminum Jon Boat that belonged to my grandfather, Thomas Simmons ,nearly 40 years prior. As I grew into my teenage years the little jon boat turned into sail, bass, and ski boats among other watercraft. His wife, and my paternal grandmother was orphaned Jewish immigrant's daughter and spent her youth in Charlotte, NC before meeting my grandfather in the 1940's. She became an English teacher in the Mecklenburg Graded School District for over 40 years spanning 1950-1992.

My mother’s family was integral in the development of Lincoln County and the I was named in the honor of my Great-Grandfather, Marshall Ramseur, who was descended from the original free-masons in Lincolnton and was himself a mason doing important municipal stonework from Georgia to New Jersey in the early half of the 20th century. His son and my maternal grandfather Bob Ramseur was the Tax Assessor in Lincoln County before opening Lincolnton Courthouse Diner as well as taking up a 20 year career in the First National Nascar Racing Series on the East Coast in the late 1960's, driving modified Shelby Cobra's. Mary, his wife and my grandmother was the Leading Real Estate Broker on the west end of Lake Norman, running Lake Norman Realty - Coldwell Banker for nearly 40 years.

 

I have an intimate and inherent knowledge of this area and quite often refer to Mooresville, NC as “my city” and Lake Norman as "my lake”. I challenge anyone, sans my wonderful fiancé April, to provide a better understanding of the nature and people of this area both from the land and from the water.
